After I participated in my second North East Skinny Dip in September this year. I came across Avril Lavigne’s new song called Head Above Water and found it very fitting in relation to Mental Health and what I had just participated in with 600 other registered dippers, raising mental health awareness for those who are having a hard day, someone who’s struggling to hold it together.
When Avril Lavigne wrote Head Above Water in she was fighting Lyme disease and like many women in this day and age that are fighting illnesses, some which you can’t see, she didn’t let it define who she was. I just love how powerful the lyrics are. She is such an inspiration to women around the globe.
So many people can relate to this song, regardless of mental health issues and invisible illnesses. Whether it’s a child getting bullied at school or anyone having a bad day!
The lyrics in the song, reminded me of how I felt when participating in the North East Skinny Dip this year and also made me think of all those men, women and children who I did it for, who have to deal with all kind of Mental Health conditions.
Here is the song below, have a listen and then leave me your thoughts in the comments section below, I’d love to know what you think!
